Winter Weather Statement
Issued: 3:57 AM CST Jan. 17, 2020 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning now in effect from 8 am this morning to
midnight CST tonight...
... Blizzard Warning in effect from midnight tonight to 6 PM CST

* what... for the Winter Storm Warning, snow accumulations of 3 to
5 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds gusting
as high as 45 mph. For the Blizzard Warning, blizzard conditions
expected. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch. Winds
gusting as high as 50 mph.

* Where... portions of east central South Dakota and southwest

* When... for the Winter Storm Warning, from 8 am this morning to
midnight CST tonight. For the Blizzard Warning, from midnight
tonight to 6 PM CST Saturday.

* Impacts... plan on slippery Road conditions. Areas of blowing
snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous
conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty
winds could bring down tree branches. The cold wind chills as
low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in
as little as 30 minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must
travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded,
stay with your vehicle.

Flood Warning
Issued: 12:37 AM CDT Sep. 12, 2019 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
western Jackson County in southwestern Minnesota...
Cottonwood County in southwestern Minnesota...

* until 330 am CDT.

* At 1232 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain has
already fallen in far western Cottonwood County. Flash flooding is
expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Windom, Westbrook, Heron Lake, Jeffers, Storden, Okabena and

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches with locally higher
amounts expected as heavy rain expands across much of western
Cottonwood and Jackson counties. In addition, heavy rain will
increase runoff into creeks and may result in flooding on Highwater
creek in western Cottonwood County.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
